After a new delay in the correction of the copies, the results of all the pupils in the single French test of 5e secondary were handed over on Monday, says the Ministry of Education.
Updated yesterday at 7:04 p.m.
“All of the steps related to the analysis and publication of the results are currently underway. Student results will be available today, July 11, 2022, during the afternoon,” said a spokesperson for the Quebec Ministry of Education (MEQ), Bryan St-Louis, at the end of the morning.
Last Thursday, the MEQ had indicated that the correction of the test would be finished on Saturday and that the results would be sent to the students on Sunday.
Faced with a lack of personnel, the Ministry had to postpone the end of the correction of the single French test of the 5e secondary school and the communication of the results to the students from July 5 to 9, despite the help provided by additional staff.
Indeed, in order to speed up the corrections, Quebec made an appeal to secondary French teachers in June. More than a hundred of them came to lend a hand.
Despite everything, these delays concern many parents when their children had to be registered last week in order to be able to participate in summer courses and the retake exam for the single French test which begins on July 20.
More flexibility
This is the case of Julie Lacroix, mother of a teenager attending a school under the responsibility of the Grandes-Seigneuries school service center, on the South Shore of Montreal. Like many parents, the latter had to wait until 4 p.m. Monday to be able to consult the results of her son in the single French test of the Ministry.
“If we had had it as planned on July 5, we would have had time to think about what we are doing, to register for the course and to plan for the exams”, says the one who expects to have to take the phone on Tuesday morning to register his child, in case his results would mean that he must take lessons.
Luckily, however, the MEQ had asked the school network “to show flexibility” for registrations for summer courses and the retake exam. Some schools had notably allowed preventive registrations that it would be possible to cancel in case the student was not in a situation of failure.
“The mailing of all the learning records will begin on July 18, as planned,” said MEQ spokesperson Bryan St-Louis.
Soon digital tests?
Quebec eventually hopes to simplify the correction of its tests thanks to the implementation of digital exams, a project for which tests will begin next year. It is therefore still not official tests, specifies the MEQ.
“The first phase of the project, which will lead to the modernization of ministerial examinations, consists of correctly configuring the digital examination management platform in order to meet the needs of all users, not only students, but also teachers and all of the staff involved,” said spokesperson Bryan St-Louis.
“For example, the following operations will no longer be necessary with this new mechanism: the reception of “paper” proofs, the verification of optically readable answer sheets, the optical reading itself; which will save significant time,” he continues.
The latter concludes by specifying that these new kind of examinations will be implemented gradually.
