“Singing for funerals”, the singer Raphaël makes an unprecedented confession about his career

He was “born in this caravan” and doesn’t plan to forget it anytime soon. Despite its release in 2005, the title Caravan of Raphael

hasn’t aged a bit. And this, thanks to the love of its performer for this piece and especially the passion of the fans for it. Indeed, invited this Wednesday January 31, 2024

Mélanie Thierry’s companion assured that this title is still as important as when it was released in his eyes, and that of his fans.

It was when Patrick Cohen reminded him that he certainly sang it “thousands of times” that Raphael

indicated what he “remained” today of Caravan. And especially if he still manages to listen to this song today. “What’s left of ‘Caravan’ in you? Can you still listen to that song?” “Of course”, he assured straight away before mentioning the link of this title with his new piece released on November 10, 2023 (Hope): “it’s true that there is a thread that links these two songs. I don’t know how. Because trying to remake ‘Caravane’ never crossed my mind”.

Raphaël sings “Caravane” for all occasions

Indeed, Mélanie Thierry’s companion explains that when writing Hopethere was “this kind of fluidity and this clear line” what could have Caravan. “But these are not things that can be decided. It’s all very mysterious and doesn’t belong to us. Afterwards I would say that this song ‘Caravane’ I loved it at the time I composed it, and the fact that it becomes so important to people…”he continued.

Raphael explains himself and takes the example of the fans’ love for his creation: “It’s still extraordinary to be accepted by an entire country, to have people tell you… that they love you in a certain way. To find your place in the world in a way”. Fans’ love for Caravan is such that the 48-year-old artist would even have performed it on strange occasions. “I’ve had people ask me to sing for funerals”he initially revealed before evoking situations which lent themselves much more to the interpretation of his piece: “for weddings, for dozens of ceremonies”. “So I know all the secrets of people’s lives that are in these kinds of songs and that makes them 100 times more important than me or my little moods”he concluded, happy with the impact of his work.
