Singer Sia says she has autism spectrum

Two years after the outcry caused by her film on the daily life of people with autism, the singer Sia confided that she herself had the spectrum of autism.

During the podcast Rob Has a Podcast, the Australian artist claimed to be on the autism spectrum. “I feel like for 45 years, I said to myself, ‘I have to go and put on my costume as a human being.’ And it’s only been in the last two years that I’ve come fully into myself,” she said during the show.

In 2021, his first feature film, Music, had drawn criticism, in particular because it was promoting restraint techniques. Audiences also considered the film to be a caricature of autism. Some decried the fact that it featured Maddie Ziegler, a young actress and neurotypical dancer, rather than an autistic person.

After apologizing several times on her Twitter account, Sia ended up closing her account and restricting comments under her Instagram posts.

At the time, the singer said that she was accompanied throughout the film’s production by two people with the autism spectrum.
