Singer Mélanie Renaud has passed away

Singer Mélanie Renaud died Tuesday morning at the age of 42. She had been battling ovarian cancer since 2016.

“Quebec is losing one of its most beautiful voices in its history. Mélanie, my little sister, my love, you are now free from all this suffering. We have had very highs and very lows. My heart hurts today,” wrote its manager Nicolas Lemieux on Facebook.

The artist enjoyed great success in the early 2000s, notably thanks to the piece I blame myself. In 2002, she won the Félix for revelation of the year.

During her career, she also lent her features to the character of Esmeralda in the musical Notre Dame de Paris.

Mélanie Renaud knew her cancer was incurable. Last fall, she announced that she was recording a final album.
