Singer Irene Cara, performer of Fame and Flashdance, is no longer

(Washington) American artist Irene Cara, singer of Famous and global success Flashdance… What a Feelingdied at the age of 63, her agent told AFP on Saturday.


Irene Cara was found dead Friday at her Florida home, her agent Judith Moose said, adding that the cause of her death is currently unknown.

The New Yorker “was such a talented figure, whose legacy will live on through her films and her music,” she wrote in a statement posted on Twitter.

Irene Cara rose to stardom in 1980 with the film Famous, where she plays a young student of an artistic high school in New York. She sings the title track, which will win the Oscar for best film music.

Three years later, she will co-write Flashdance… What a feelingkey piece of the film’s soundtrack flash danceon which actress Jennifer Beals will perform a mythical choreography.

The track, composed by star DJ Giorgio Moroder who prints his disco touch and sung by Irene Cara, will also win an Oscar. It is still sung by millions of people today.

Irene Cara rose to fame for her appearances on the small screen in the 1970s, after training in music, singing and dancing in her hometown of New York.

If she will not find the great success of Famous and flash dancethe artist continued to shoot in films, such as DC Cab and City Heattelevision and theater.

She had no children, her agent told AFP.
