Singer Corneliu was arrested for failing to appear in court

Singer Corneliu Munteanu was arrested by police on Wednesday evening. An arrest warrant was issued against him after he failed to appear in court last Thursday, where he was expected.

The 40-year-old man, who made himself known on the show Star Academywas accused last January of drugging two people, in 2013 and 2016.

The charge is the same in both cases: administering or causing to be taken “a poison, a destructive substance or a deleterious substance” with the intention of distressing or tormenting a person. The alleged actions were allegedly committed in Montreal, the first time in August 2013 and the second in June 2016.

His presence was required at the Montreal courthouse last Thursday in this case, but he was nowhere to be found. His lawyers had indicated that they had difficulty communicating with him.

“The gentleman was called to the floors, his lawyers have not heard from him, so the court notes the defect and orders the issuance of an arrest warrant against him,” declared the judge sitting in room 4.07.

He had since been sought by police, who finally found him on Wednesday evening and took him into custody. He is due to appear in court Thursday afternoon.

The artist participated in the second edition of the popular Quebec show Star Academyin 2004.
