Singapore Grand Prix | Hamilton leads in first free practice

(Singapore) Briton Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) set the fastest time in the first free practice session of the Singapore Grand Prix, 17e round of the Formula 1 World Championship, Friday on the urban circuit of Marina Bay (5.063 km).

It is the first time this season that the seven-time world champion has dominated a test session. The 37-year-old Briton, just 6e world, is still waiting for a first victory in 2022. He has six races left to achieve it.

Friday in Singapore, for the return of F1 on the street circuit of the Asian city-state, he was ahead of 84/1000e Max Verstappen (Red Bull), comfortable leader of the championship.

The Dutchman, who celebrates his 25th birthday on Friday, has his first chance at the title this weekend. If he wins at Marina Bay, where he has never won before, and at the same time Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) finishes at best ninth and Pérez fourth (without obtaining the point for the fastest lap), then he would be titled a second time in a row.

Leclerc and Perez, 2e and 3e of the championship, have justly signed the 3e and 4e time of the first practice session, preparation for the most physically demanding Grand Prix of the year, according to the drivers.
