Since the pantheonization of Joséphine Baker, the crowd fills the castle of Milandes on a daily basis. The tourists come to discover the residence of the resistant. “It allows you to see the dresses she wore, the photos she took”, explains a young visitor. Costumes, personal items… it’s a slice of history that comes back to life. “It is very impressive to be in the places where she lived with her children”, says a man.

In November, the castle saw 25% more tourists pass through and welcomed up to 500 people per day. “There, we feel that people are really coming to meet Joséphine Baker”, comments Angélique de Saint-Exupéry, the owner of the premises. Consequence: the shop has also doubled its sales, with, at the top of the list, books on the life of the resistance.
