An extraordinary life, punctuated by tragedies and historical moments. In the movie Simone, the trip of the century, in theaters on Wednesday October 12, actress Elsa Zylberstein plays Simone Veil. And she did everything for this project, directed by Olivier Dahan, to see the light of day. Blue suit and make-up, the actress blended into her character. “It infused me”says Elsa Zylberstein, who claimed to have “listened to his voice for three, four hours a day or more, to enter into each step, each breath, each blink of an eye, each mini-gesture”.
At the heart of the film is the law on abortion that Simone Veil defended against all odds in 1974. It is this fight that the French remember, 48 years later. But this feature film is not content with its political career. Simone Veil is also the tragic story of a young girl deported at the age of 16. Another actress, Rebecca Marder, plays this younger Simone Veil, from the concentration camps to the magistrature. Simone Veil’s struggles are honored in this film, four years after her entry into the Pantheon.
