Silverstone climate does not smile on Lance Stroll in qualifying

Lance Stroll remained a little unsatisfied after the qualifying session for the British Grand Prix, he who could only set the 12th fastest time on Saturday.

The Silverstone circuit was hit by several bouts of rain, which made the track quite difficult to maneuver in the first few moments. The track quickly dried up, but some corners remained difficult to approach.

We had to get out of the pits at the right time in order to benefit from the best road conditions, which was a bit detrimental to the Quebecer.

“I think it was possible to do better in qualifying today,” Stroll told the Aston Martin team website. The red flag forced us to use a third set of tires in Q1, which meant that we didn’t have any new tires for Q2 and that gave us a step back from the others.

Despite the complete immobilization of Kevin Magnussen’s (Haas) car at the end of Q1, the Montrealer had no difficulty moving on to the next stage.

However, Stroll’s time of 1min 28.896s was not enough to accompany his team-mate Fernando Alonso in Q3. Also, one of his laps was canceled as he exceeded the track limits.

We also saw the 24-year-old having trouble with Esteban Ocon (Alpine) during their preparation lap. The Frenchman and the Quebecer came very close to touching, and neither of them will start in the top 10.

“[C’était] one of the most difficult qualifying sessions of the year, due to the drying track, the constant threat of rain and the red flag before the end of Q1”, testified the Aston director Martin, Mike Krack.

Participating in Q3, Alonso fell short under clear skies. He will start ninth, far from Max Verstappen (Red Bull) and the surprising McLarens of Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri.

“It’s a long race tomorrow and the AMR23 is doing well so I’ll do my best to fight through the peloton and put on a good show for our home fans,” added Stroll, who is already anticipating the race. Sunday race.
