Significant pro-Palestine mobilization in Ottawa

A large demonstration in support of the Palestinians took place in Ottawa on Saturday.

Thousands of people from Montreal, Quebec and Toronto took part in this gathering.

For more than two hours, the crowd chanted pro-Palestinian slogans in front of the Parliament.

Participants accused Israel of carrying out genocide in the Gaza Strip, with the complicity of Canada.

“We are complicit if we support the State of Israel […] who is killing children, women, men,” a demonstrator told TVA Nouvelles.

The demonstrators consider the current truce insufficient. They call on Justin Trudeau to demand a permanent ceasefire.

“Trudeau must understand what Canadians want,” said another demonstrator. “It’s time he called for a ceasefire.”

“Canada must stop exporting weapons to Israel,” said another. “There are war crimes being committed right now and it is unacceptable.”

“We want this genocide to end,” says Sarah Shamy of the Palestinian Youth Movement. “We want Canadian complicity to end. We have more than 20,000 deaths.”

The participants of this rally then left Parliament Hill to march through the streets of downtown Ottawa under heavy police surveillance.
