The partial closure of the Jacques-Cartier Bridge, towards the South Shore, in the afternoon is causing significant congestion in Montreal, while the tunnel construction site is already causing delays in getting out of the island.
Around 12:45 p.m., Quebec 511 first announced the complete closure of the particularly busy structure. Finally, two lanes were closed and one lane was opened towards Longueuil.
All access roads to the bridge were completely blocked in the early afternoon in Montreal, a real hell for motorists.
The emergency on the structure ended around 2:15 p.m., but the traffic was far from being absorbed. =
Despite the three lanes open southbound on the Jacques-Cartier Bridge, the access lanes to the bridge are congested.
Motorists wishing to access the bridge from Papineau Avenue are bumper to bumper from Masson Street.
Those traveling on Sherbrooke Street, heading west, must take their troubles patiently from Frontenac Street.
Drivers on Sherbrooke Street eastbound are stopped from Saint-André Street.
The heavy traffic is also felt on Notre-Dame and Iberville streets and several small streets neighboring the access roads to the bridge.
