Janine Jansen is one of the most positive surprises among the artists who emerged in the early 2000s (1er Decca CD in 2003). She patiently delivered us discs of great concentration, at the top of which the Beethoven / Britten with Paavo Järvi in 2009 and the Brahms / Bartók with Pappano in 2015. After the 2e Concerto by Prokofiev with Vladimir Jurowski (coupled with sonatas), here is the 1er, associated with Sibelius. We find the purity of intonation, the sound power and the verve of the Dutchwoman, in the 1er CD of concertos by the prodigy Klaus Mäkelä. But it is above all Jansen who is prodigious in her way of bringing the phrasings to life (pulsation of the Final by Sibelius). Because if Mäkelä does a good job, we are amazed by the soundscape; a colorful station hall sound. A documentary showed that this conductor is a maniac about the “sound production” of his recordings. He probably needs an advisor and Decca needs to reconnect with a tradition of excellence… Too bad for Jansen, whose services are referential.
