The extracurricular activities, very useful, allow the children to exert themselves. But be careful not to abuse it: they must also rest. So what is the right dosage?

This is the third day of climbing course for a group of children, in Issy-les-Moulineaux (Hauts-de-Seine). Sport requires concentration, precision and energy. Aymeric Satre, 7 years old, is not lacking. “Climbing everywhere, and everything, I wanted. I was climbing on the couch”, he said. For his mother, Florence, making him practice a sport outside of school is essential. “He needs to let off steam. He likes sport a lot, even when he’s at home he likes to do other sports”she says.

Many children engage in one or more extracurricular activities during the year. Enrolling your child in a sports activity also helps keep them away from screens. Be careful, however, not to overload your schedule too much. “I think that before the age of 5, it’s really not useful. From the age of 5, it opens them up to other worlds, it can highlight talents, value them whereas in school life they don’t are not always. Now, put too much, no”, believes Béatrice Copper-Royer, clinical psychologist. Prioritize extracurricular activities on non-school days, Wednesdays and weekends.
