To reduce the emission of greenhouse gases, the Court of Auditors wishes to reduce the French cattle herd because breeding is responsible for 11.8% of CO2 emissions.

Are there too many cows in France? This is what the Court of Auditors thinks. To save the climate, we should eat less meat and dairy products because during digestion, cows emit methane, a powerful greenhouse gas. Cattle farming is thus responsible for 11.8% of total emissions in France.

“It is experienced as a wound”

A report that angers François Garivier, breeder in the Loire. According to him, his 75 cows maintain farmland and grassland, including grazing. His farm would be in danger if he had fewer cows. “Reading that your activity must stop or greatly decrease (…) is experienced as a wound”reacted Arnaud Rousseau, president of the FNSEA. The herd has already decreased significantly in France.
