The puffs, these small disposable electronic cigarettes, are very popular with the youngest. The reason: their fruity, sweet or tangy aromas. For some experts, this would promote the trivialization of nicotine among young people, which is not without danger for their health.

The puffs, disposable vapes with various tastes, have everything to seduce the youngest. “I have one and I put different tastes, I mix fruits, I like it”, describes one consumer. “I like things fresh, minty, or fruity”, added another. Sweet flavors that are successful, even if their sale is prohibited to minors. “We sell a lot more fruity than tobacco”observes Stéphane Guégan, tobacconist in Paris.

The nicotine behind the sugar

Some experts want to warn about the misleading side of puffs, often associated with nicotine. According to Emmanuelle Beguinot, of the National Committee Against Smoking, “the aroma is actually a way to make people forget that they are consuming an extremely addictive drug, which is nicotine (…) and afterwards it is very difficult to stop“. Some tobaccologists are more nuanced, believing that vaping remains a lesser evil.
