In order to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from the air transport sector, the Climate Action Network association is proposing a progressive tax for frequent travellers.

A tax on each plane ticket, which increases depending on the distance traveled and the frequency of flights. This is the proposal of the Climate Action Network federation to reduce emissions from the aviation sector. “It hurts the wallet. At the same time, ecologically, I think it’s time we did something.”says a passenger waiting for her flight at Roissy.

The “frequent traveler” tax would be progressive: for a first round trip during the year to a distant destination, such as New York (United States), it would cost 100 euros. Then 500 euros for the fifth trip. But for a first trip from Paris to Barcelona, the passenger would not have to pay anything. The fifth trip, however, would be billed at 400 euros. A shocking and necessary measure for the association that is proposing it, because greenhouse gas emissions from the aviation sector continue to increase.
