Faced with the Omicron wave, is the fourth dose necessary? The Strategic Council for Vaccine Orientation, which advises the government, is not in favor of it. Journalist Marina Carrère d’Encausse takes stock of her arguments.

Many caregivers and frail people are currently four months away from their booster dose, so the question of the fourth dose is “legitimate” says journalist Marina Carrère d’Encausse. The Strategic Council for Vaccine Orientation is not in favor of it. “(He) relied on studies, in particular British and French. The most recent shows that three months after the booster dose, the effectiveness is still 90% whereas after the two initial doses, after three months , we were at 70%. Very clearly, this booster dose is extremely effective”, assures the journalist.

Furthermore, for the Strategic Council for Vaccine Orientation, there are more “urgent” : “The priority is to immunize the population. To do this, we must encourage the unvaccinated to go get vaccinated and encourage those who have not yet had their booster dose to do so. It must be said that 27% of over 65 haven’t got it yet, recalls the journalist. The message is: we finish the regimen three doses first.” As for the need for a fourth dose: “It’s too early to know”, says the journalist. “We are going to study what is happening in Israel where we started on January 3, we are going to observe severe forms of hospitalizations, whether they increase or not. We are waiting for the scientific data”, concludes Marina Carrère d’Encausse.
