Montreal police are trying to see if there is a link between a shooting that broke out in Mercier–Hochelaga-Maisonneuve on Tuesday evening and a 19-year-old man with gunshot wounds located ten minutes later near the University Hospital Center from Montreal.
The shooting occurred around 9:35 p.m. near the intersection of Souligny and Sainte-Émile avenues, but the police dispatched to the scene found neither victim nor suspect. However, they located at least one casing on the ground.
Then, about ten minutes later, a second intervention took place with a man wounded by a bullet at the corner of rue Sanguinet and avenue Viger, a few steps from the Center hospitalier de l’Université de Montréal (CHUM) downtown.
The 19-year-old victim had serious upper body injuries, but there are no fears for his life after he was taken to hospital, according to the spokesperson for the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) Jeanne Drouin.
It is not known if the victim was injured during the shooting in the Mercier sector, and if so, how she ended up near the CHUM, questions that the SPVM investigators are looking into.
“For the moment, we cannot confirm whether the two events are connected or not,” said Agent Drouin, mentioning that images from surveillance cameras will be viewed and witnesses to be met by investigators assisted by the service. of forensic identification.
