Shots fired in a Montreal library

The Montreal City Police Service (SPVM) is investigating shots fired inside the public library in the Saint-Michel borough on Sunday afternoon.

Emergency services were alerted around 3 p.m. after witnesses heard “firecracker noises” coming from a toilet room for people with reduced mobility, reports Caroline Chèvrefils, media relations officer for the SPVM.

Once they arrived at the establishment on rue François-Perreault, not far from rue Michel-Ange, the police discovered bullet casings on the bathroom floor. They also noticed projectile impacts on the walls of the room, says Mme Honeysons.

“According to witnesses met at the scene, suspects fired shots and then fled before the police arrived,” continues the publicist.

Although several patrons were in the library, no one was injured.

The location was secured to allow investigators and forensic identification technicians to analyze the scene and attempt to clarify the circumstances surrounding the event.

No arrests have yet been made in connection with this case, but the investigation is ongoing.

Mme Chèvrefils indicates that checks could be made with surveillance cameras located in the area in order to trace the suspects.
