Shortage of teachers: a retired mathematics teacher returns to service in Angoulême

For the past few weeks, in many colleagues, high schools and schools, retired teachers have been returning to service because of the shortage of teachers due to the Covid-19. A high school in Angoulême has thus brought back a former mathematics teacher.

Claudius Perraudtemporary associate professor of mathematics, is once again teaching at Guez de Balzac high school, in Angoulême (Charente). If he asserted his rights to retirement five years ago, he was called to the rescue to ensure educational continuity in second and final, following the sick leave of a full professor. His return to the painting is not without apprehension. “Already, there is age. I am afraid, sometimes, of not finding my words, (…) and then there is an expectation from the parents, from the pupils”, confides the latter.

For the students, it’s a return to normal, after a month and a half without a teacher. In this period when the accentuated pandemic the difficulty of finding teachers, the Principal, Delphine Nibaudeauis facing a headache, as most contract teachers are already taken. The arrival of a teacher retired math is thus welcome. “We have a great story of solidarity and teamwork over time, because it’s been 5.6 years since he left Guez de Balzac, but learning that we were missing someone and that we couldn’t to find a solution, he chose to find his colleagues and especially our students”, she confides.
