(Montreal) Canadian skaters Kim Boutin and Pascal Dion both won the silver medal in the 1500 meters at the World Short Track Championships on Saturday afternoon in front of a large and noisy crowd at the Maurice-Richard arena.

Boutin is surrounded by Koreans on the podium. The reigning Olympic champion in this distance, Minjeong Choi, moved ahead of the group in the final laps to win. Her teammate Whimin Seo finished third behind Boutin.
The reigning 1500m world vice-champion, New Brunswick’s Courtney Sarault, finished in fourth place.
On the men’s side, Pascal Dion skated in the leading group throughout the race. Hungarian Shaoang Liu beat him in the last two laps to take the gold. It is the Belgian Stijn Desmet who inherits the bronze medal.
This is the first individual medal in the World Championships in career for Dion, 27 years old.
Quarter-finals, semi-finals and 500-metre finals will follow this afternoon.
