Charles Hamelin was in a good position towards the end of his race, but he wanted to send a message. Third, he made two daring overtakes to take the lead. Obviously, for his last day of individual competition at the Olympic Games, Hamelin is thinking big.

Pascal Dion, from Pointe-aux-Trembles, advanced to the semi-finals thanks to a second place finish during his heat. Hungarian Shaolin Sandor Liu set an Olympic record in this race, with a time of 2:19.213s.

Steven Dubois was hot in the quarters. Penultimate in his wave with a few laps to go, the skater from Laval made a good comeback at the end of the race. He finally crossed the finish line in third place, a good position for qualifying.

The semi-finals will take place at 7:29 a.m. Eastern Time at the Beijing Indoor Stadium.
