(Rotterdam) Quebecer William Dandjinou was crowned world champion in the 1000 meters on Sunday at the World Short Track Speed Skating Championships.
Dandjinou covered the distance in 1 minute 25.534 seconds. He beat the Italians Pietro Sighel (1:25.555) and Luca Spechenhauser (1:26.026).

The 22-year-old skater was the only Canadian to reach a grand final in an individual discipline during this last day of competition at the Worlds.

Over the same distance, Steven Dubois was relegated to the B final, which he won in 1:45.557. Pascal Dion saw his workday end in the quarter-finals.
Kim Boutin, Danaé Blais, Rikki Doak and Renée Marie Steenge also won bronze in the 3000m relay with a time of 4:12.675. The Netherlands (4:07.788) and the United States (4:08.061) were ahead of them.
In the team relay, Jordan Pierre-Gilles, Courtney Sarault, Steenge and Dion triumphed in the small final with a time of 2:41.874. The Chinese won the event.
The men did not qualify for the 5000m finals.
In the women’s 1000m, Boutin and Courtney Sarault were unable to qualify for the main final. In the small final, Sarault (1:51.459) took third place, while Boutin did not start.
Boutin won the 500m title on Saturday.
Blais, for her part, was eliminated in the quarter-finals. After being decorated with silver in the 1500m on Saturday, American Kristen Santos-Griswold was crowned champion in the 1000m.
