(Dordrecht) Canada’s Courtney Sarault captured the silver medal in the 1,500-meter event staged on Saturday as part of the Short Track Speed Skating World Cup stage in Dordrecht, the Netherlands.
After earning first place in her heat in the semi-finals thanks to a time of 2 minutes 25,291 seconds, a little earlier in the day, Sarault negotiated the distance in 2: 22,043 in the A final.
South Korean Yubin Lee, the overall World Cup distance leader, finished first in 2: 21,931.
Suzanne Schulting of the Netherlands was third in 2: 22,075.
The Canadians Camille de Serres-Rainville and Danae Blais were eliminated at the end of the semi-finals.
On the men’s side, over the same distance, Quebecer Steven Dubois placed fifth in the A final, in 2: 20,803.
China’s Ziwei Ren won gold in 2: 20,352.
Contesting in the second and third waves of the semi-finals, respectively, Quebecers Pascal Dion and Charles Hamelin both received penalties and were thus eliminated.
