“Shore”, Yuki Isami | The duty

We first discovered the frosty side of Yuki Isami, on record and on stage, as a member of the surf/garage rock group TEKE::TEKE (June 30 at FIJM). Shores, this is the nourishing side of the Quebec flautist of Japanese origin and collaborator of the Orchester Métropolitain (among others). “This album traces the evolution of Japanese music following its contact with Western culture,” she comments, an instructive selection of works by European and Japanese composers which begins afterwards Five songs with Japanese themes by Eugène Bozza (1905-1991), continues with the essential Haru No Umi by Michio Miyagi, concludes with extracts from the Japanese classical repertoire, after a visit to Debussy (magnificent Ancient epigraphs). Isami blows the shamisen, shinobue and koto flutes, accompanied by the expert hands of pianist Natsuki Hiratsuka and percussionist Patrick Graham, offering a dreamy, elegant album, as exotic as it is familiar, which she will present on 1er July, on display at the FIJM.
