Several supermarkets have decided to recruit “shopping companions”, responsible for helping the elderly with their shopping. This is particularly the case in Granville (Manche), where this service seems to satisfy everyone, Friday March 3.
Lifting water packs, grabbing high products or even reading labels is sometimes difficult when shopping. To help seniors do their shopping, shopping companions have appeared. This is particularly the case in a supermarket in Granville (Manche), where Jeannine goes twice a week. That day, it was Marianne, a 19-year-old student, who was in charge of accompanying her.
A free service
This service, free for the elderly, is paid 12 euros per hour for the students who perform it. “It’s a hundred euros at a time of the month, anyway, so it’s not bad”, testifies Marianne. She is an employee of Mains d’Argent, the company that created the shopping companions. A service that costs around 1,000 euros per month to this supermarket, which sees in it the opportunity to retain its customers by welcoming them better.
