(Ottawa) Shopify announced on Friday that its chief technology officer, Allan Leinwand, will be leaving the company and that chief executive Tobi Lütke will assume some of his duties.
In a statement from Leinwand, provided by the Ottawa-based e-commerce solutions giant, the chief technology officer says he is leaving Shopify for an unspecified “personal reason.”
Mr. Leinwand, formerly senior vice president of engineering at Slack, spent 18 months at Shopify, taking over from Jean-Michel Lemieux, who left the company in 2021.
A statement from Shopify President Harley Finkelstein says the company’s founder, Mr. Lütke, will now oversee research and development.
Mr. Lütke had previously stepped in to take over the responsibilities of chief product officer Craig Miller, when the latter left in 2020. At the time, Mr. Lütke indicated that there were no plans to replace Mr. Miller.
Mr Leinwand’s departure comes after the company parted ways with several key employees during the pandemic, including chief financial officer Amy Shapero, chief operating officer Toby Shannan and chief talent officer Brittany Forsyth.
