Shooting: the mystery still hovers in Estérel

The Sûreté du Québec is still trying to elucidate the circumstances of a shooting that injured a Russian national in the Laurentians on Friday, after the release of a former gang leader possibly involved in the incident.

A large police contingent had been deployed at the dawn of the long weekend, when Valeriy Tarasenko showed up at a popular resort in Estérel with at least one gunshot wound to the hip.

This 44-year-old Russian national is a close and ex-business partner of Inna Yashchyshyn, a fraudster who had infiltrated Donald Trump’s entourage.

He is said to have seriously injured himself with his firearm during a meeting that went wrong.

Arrested then released

This lead was raised after a suspect, Richard Goodridge, 53, was arrested and questioned by police on Sunday morning. He was eventually released on a promise to appear, without being charged.

The former relative of the Hells Angels had been deported to his native Guyana by the Immigration Commission in 2014, for serious criminality, but he returned to the country in 2016.

He would also be one of the founders of the former gang 67, which raged in the Saint-Michel district, in Montreal.

It is not ruled out that charges will be filed later, both against Valeriy Tarasenko and against Richard Goodridge.

Joined by Le Journal, Frank Pappas, the mayor of the city of Estérel, refused to comment on the case, recalling that the citizens had nothing to fear.

He also wants to avoid harming the provincial police investigation.
