Tuesday April 2, in a school in the north of Helsinki (Finland), a student opened fire on his classmates. “It’s astonishing that such a thing would happen, we’re talking about a primary school”, deplores Joanne Savolainen, father of a young girl attending the school. The 12-year-old suspect, who attended the same school, was arrested by the police in possession of a firearm. He caused several victims in his path. “One of the victims died almost immediately on the school site”says Tomi Salosyrjä, Finnish police inspector.

The attacker will not be incarcerated

A sixth grade student was killed instantly and his two other classmates were seriously injured. The government offered its condolences to the families of the victims. An investigation was opened for murder and attempted murder. The weapon belongs to a relative of the suspect. The young attacker, aged under 15, will not be incarcerated. He will be handed over to social services after his interrogation.
