In the middle of a parade for the National Day, Monday July 4, a man opened fire on the crowd. Wanted, he would have killed six people and injured more than twenty.
The parade is just beginning in Highland Park, a city in Illinois. When suddenly, it’s panic. A man has just opened fire. He shoots dozens of times. The hundreds of people who came to watch the National Day parade run off: “I saw someone on the ground holding their leg and a girl crying next to it. On the left we saw at least three other people on the ground with blood. Obviously we started running towards our car”. “At first I thought it was the Navy or fireworks. But when I started to see people running, I grabbed my son. I ran to a store that I knew just behind. I tried to break the window to shelter my son”says another witness.
Many families were present for the parade. The latest report shows at least 6 dead and 24 injured. The neighborhood is cordoned off by the police who meticulously search each house in search of the slightest clue. “For the moment, there is no indication that he is barricaded somewhere with hostages. This is not the privileged track, but he is undoubtedly still armed and dangerous”said the Lake County Police Chief. US President Joe Biden said he was shocked. The police announced that they had found a rifle which could belong to the shooter. The suspect, in his twenties, is still being actively sought.
