Shooting in Longueuil: vast operation to find a potentially armed individual

A large police operation was underway Friday morning in Longueuil to find a potentially armed individual who was allegedly involved in a shooting earlier in the morning.

Several residences, as well as a daycare, had to be evacuated as a preventive measure.

The police were first called around 6 a.m. for a shooting that occurred on Daniel Street, between Leblanc Street West and Briggs Street West.

Casings were found on the ground, but no one was injured, authorities said.

Then, the police arrested two individuals not far from the crime scene. They were to be interviewed during the day to establish their level of involvement in this event.

According to our information, this shooting could be linked to the world of Montreal street gangs.

A third individual, possibly linked to this event of armed violence, is said to have taken refuge in a residence on Daniel Street.

It is for this reason that a vast operation has been set in motion in the sector. “In this kind of situation, there is no chance to take,” said agent François Boucher, spokesperson for the Longueuil police.

The members of the Longueuil police intervention tactical group were to go to the scene to invest the targeted residence during the morning.

Several streets were therefore closed to all traffic and the authorities advised people to avoid this sector of the city.
