“It happened near my little brother’s head,” whispers the 19-year-old occupant who lives in the small apartment that was shot last week.

The rest of the family is still dozing. The weekend was not easy.

Friday night. A mother in her 40s, who requested anonymity, watches TV with her 11-year-old son. Then, all of a sudden, explosions. A bullet goes through the glass door leading to the balcony. “My son almost died. If the ball [avait traversé] five seconds before, it would have hit him,” she told The Press Monday morning.

The family of three children remains gripped by fear.

Fortunately, there are no injuries. But the shock “of having almost passed through” traumatizes the family, she explains, glancing furtively at the broken door, covered with a wooden plank. The projectiles fired around 5:30 p.m. at the corner of Dominion and Quesnel streets also damaged his minivan.

Her daughter is shivering. It’s not the first time she’s heard the whistle of projectiles. The neighborhood has always been shaken by settling of scores, fights and shootings interspersed with periods of calm.

“We want to change places, but it’s difficult with [l’Office municipal de l’Habitation]. We were offered psychological help. But I have to take care of all that, because my parents don’t speak French or English,” laments the young girl.

Last summer, a shooting occurred on the same street corner, near a convenience store. Then a 21-year-old young man was found in his car two streets away, shot dead.

“We really came close to the worst,” sighs the resident.
