Andrée Brunet will long remember the afternoon of May 10, 2022, when three shots were fired a few meters from her granddaughter, in the Chomedey district, in Laval. An event that plunged the child into concern.

“It’s so quiet, it’s residential. We don’t even hear the noise of cars here, ”says the grandmother of one of the two girls who witnessed the shooting on Tuesday afternoon.
Yet it was the sounds of gunfire that disturbed the peace of this quiet street corner. A third shooting in three days took place around 2 p.m. The projectiles hit a 33-year-old man known to police circles.
In images sent by a resident to The Press shows a terrible scene. What appears to be a black Cadillac car is seen following the victim’s vehicle, then passing in front as she parks.
On the third pass, a gun can be seen coming out of the passenger side window to fire at the victim, who is getting out of his car with a young woman.
The young girls jump and flee when they hear the gunshots as the suspicious vehicle speeds by.
Andrée Brunet was returning from an appointment with the mechanic when she found herself in the middle of a police perimeter shortly after this chaotic scene. “At the garage, they tell me that there is a shooting near my house. I say to myself, come on, at this hour? »
She rushes home. She finds her 11-year-old granddaughter and her friend of the same age in tears. The lights were out and the curtains drawn.
“The police were already there. They took great care to calm the children down. There was even a beautiful labrador to comfort them. »
Wednesday morning, not a sound on rue Normandin, where it all happened. A bullet hole is still clearly visible on a black car parked on the side of the road.

Delayed birthday
Mme Brunet still feels safe at home, even if “it came close” to touching one of the two girls. Her granddaughter will not come to celebrate her birthday at her grandmother’s next week. “We had to do this at my house. But now, it’s too early. She is still a little in shock, ”explains the lady with a hint of sadness in her voice. She has lived in the Chomedey district since 2003.
Andrée Brunet is aware of the insecurity caused by the shooting among the neighborhood. But she doesn’t want the two children to stop playing outside. “You have to consult, it must not become a trauma. »
When she spoke to her granddaughter last night on the phone, she still got a little chill. “She said goodnight to me grandma, don’t forget to lock your doors and close the curtains tonight. »
