The shooting of rare violence that occurred Sunday evening in the west end of Montreal seriously injured a man in his fifties and his 18-year-old son. The suspect, a man with multiple criminal records, allegedly targeted them after taking their vehicle.
The alleged 26-year-old shooter showed up armed at the intersection of Davignon Street, near Salaberry Boulevard, in the Dollard-des-Ormeaux sector.
For reasons that remain unclear, the assailant allegedly tried to steal the vehicle of two passers-by to flee the scene. He then allegedly shot at two innocent people, a 52-year-old father and his 18-year-old son. According to our information, other members of the family were present during the shooting attack.
The Montreal Police Department (SPVM) had meanwhile received a call about a gunshot. The suspect was reportedly injured during an exchange of gunfire with police officers while he was trying to flee the authorities shortly after the arrest.
According to our information, a stray bullet went through the window of a residence, where a child was at the time of the incident. He is reportedly safe and sound.
It was a rare violent incident in this quiet residential neighborhood, confirms Laura Izquierdo. She heard the numerous gunshots while she was walking with her young children.
“It took me a while [pour] “I realized that the noise was dozens of gunshots,” explains the mother who lives in the neighborhood.
She rushed home when she saw several police vehicles. At the scene, an officer told her to go home and close the windows.
I knew it was serious. There were so many police.

No more late night walks for Mme Izquierdo and his children. “I’m scared because it happened at 8 p.m., the time when I walk with my children. Two innocent people almost died.”
A large security perimeter was still in place in the middle of the afternoon. The authorities also deployed two command posts. Given the armed altercation with the suspect, the Bureau of Independent Investigations (BEI) is taking charge of the case.
The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) is in charge of the investigation concerning the alleged shooter.
