At least six people were killed and twenty-four injured in a shooting that occurred on Monday July 4 in Highland Park (Illinois, United States), near Chicago, during an American Independence Day parade, according to the authorities. The suspect, described by police as an 18 to 20 year old white male, is on the run and “considered armed and dangerous”.
The festivities were suspended in Highland Park, a wealthy town north of Chicago, where the tragedy took place, and in several surrounding towns. A witness to the shootings, Michael, interviewed by the WGN channel, reported seeing a single shooter, armed with a rifle, “crouched on the ground advancing in a methodical, almost military manner”.
Footage was shot by a person who was on site. We hear someone scream “gun shots [coups de feu] !” before the surrounding families get up to run.
