Shooting at Collège Montmorency | Police erect a command post

(Laval) A mobile police command post will be stationed all day Friday near Collège Montmorency, Laval, in hopes of advancing the investigation into an attempted murder that prompted a lockdown of students and staff on November 11 and caused quite a stir in the community.

Investigators from the Crimes against the person squad of the Service de police de Laval (SPL) will be at the command post from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., near door 7 of the collegiate institution.

Evidence leads SPL investigators to believe people may have witnessed attempted murder; they would like to get in touch with them.

On November 11, at the end of the afternoon, a suspect arriving from a park behind Collège Montmorency allegedly fired several times at four people who then took refuge inside the college. This triggered a vast police containment operation to ensure the safety of the students and staff present on site.

About 500 students were held inside for more than four hours, while very worried relatives waited outside.

The management of Collège Montmorency has suspended the courses scheduled for Monday, November 14. Students and staff were invited to participate in a so-called day of comfort in order to take a step back from the shooting.

During the hours that followed these acts of violence, the head of the Laval police department, Pierre Brochet, speculated that some victims were linked to the Flamehead Boys (FHB) gang, a group active in Laval territory. He added that the shots had no connection with the cégep.
