(Sherbrooke) The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) was entrusted with the investigation into the murder of a 52-year-old man in Sherbrooke, in Estrie.

Emergency services were notified early Friday morning, around 5:10 a.m., of the stabbing which occurred near a home on Gillespie Street, in the city center.

The man was found outside the residence with serious injuries, according to preliminary information. He was in critical condition when transported to hospital, the Sherbrooke Police Service (SPS) initially indicated. His death was confirmed this morning by the SQ.

The Bureau of Independent Investigations (BEI) is also conducting an investigation into this matter since the Sherbrooke police officers had gone to the same address a few hours earlier.

According to initial information from the BEI, a call was made to 911, around 2:40 a.m., “by a person making incoherent comments”.

Following the assessment carried out by the SPS police officers with the occupants of the residence, they left, indicated the BEI.

Five BEI investigators were tasked with investigating the circumstances surrounding the intervention.

Municipal police initially reported that the assault occurred late at night in a home on Gillespie Street, near the intersection of Aberdeen Street.

The BEI asks anyone who may have witnessed this event to contact it via its website at www.bei.gouv.qc.ca/nous_joindre.
