(Sherbrooke) A regular on impaired driving charges was arrested while driving his vehicle on Thursday night in Sherbrooke, shortly after being warned by police not to drive and to go home.

Posted at 8:31 a.m.

The Sherbrooke Police Service (SPS) reports that the 66-year-old man’s blood alcohol test at the police station indicated that his blood alcohol level was more than double the legal limit by the law. He was nevertheless released on a promise to appear in court at a later date.

Police say the record of the repeat offender indicates a lifetime driving ban.

It was SPS patrol officers who noticed around 2 a.m. the presence of the intoxicated man in Petit-Canada Park, downtown. They ordered him to leave the park and not to use his mobility scooter, given his drunkenness.

A few hours after the warning was given, the police located the man who was riding a scooter on rue Alexandre. They were able to quickly confirm that he was still intoxicated and they arrested him while ordering the towing of his mobility scooter.

The unrepentant man will be charged with impaired driving and driving while prohibited.
