(Sherbrooke) On Thursday morning, the criminal investigations division of the Sherbrooke Police Service (SPS), in collaboration with the Sûreté du Québec, arrested a man in connection with sexual offenses involving minors under the age of 16.
Sylvain Taillefer, a 58-year-old man from Salaberry-de-Valleyfield, was arrested and then appeared by videoconference at the Sherbrooke courthouse, the SPS reported in a press release.
The man faces charges of sexual interference, incitement to sexual contact and sexual assault against three victims under the age of 16.
The facts date back to the period of 1987 and 1993 and would have taken place in the Sherbrooke and Salaberry-de-Valleyfield sectors.
The investigation, which is ongoing, is attempting to demonstrate that Sylvain Taillefer could have caused other victims, he who was involved at the time in the sporting community of Estrie and Montreal.
Police warn additional charges could potentially be filed.
Given that the individual had several victims, the structure for managing investigations into serial crimes (GECS), coordinated by the Sûreté du Québec, was set up to coordinate the various police services at the provincial level. who will pool their resources.
