The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) announced on Tuesday the selection of filmmaker Sophie Deraspe’s sixth feature film, Shepherdsin the “Special Presentations” section, as a world premiere.
This is a return to TIFF for the 50-year-old director, one of the leading figures of new Quebec cinema. Her previous feature film, Antigonewon the Best Canadian Film Award in 2019, before enjoying great success in cinemas and then being chosen as the Canadian representative in the race for the Oscar for Best International Film.
Written by Sophie Deraspe and Mathyas Lefebure, Shepherds is loosely inspired by the novel Where do you come from, shepherd? by Mathyas Lefebure, published by Leméac Éditeur. The feature film starring actor Félix-Antoine Duval (For Sarah, The Escape, Fragments) and the French performers Solène Rigot, Guilaine Londez, Michel Benizri, David Ayala, Véronique Ruggia Saura, Younès Boucif, Bruno Raffaelli and Aloïse Sauvage.
A Canada-France co-production, the film was shot last summer in the Arles region of France and in the French Alps near Beaufort.
The Toronto Film Festival, the most prestigious film festival in North America, will take place this year from September 5 to 15.
