Sheldon Keefe knows more about his future

Barring an unexpected turn of events, head coach Sheldon Keefe will remain with the Toronto Maple Leafs, who plan to negotiate a contract extension with him.

According to TSN, the club’s new general manager, Brad Treliving, has no intention of firing the 42-year-old who has been in office since the start of the 2019-2020 campaign. Keefe still has a year left on his deal and finally led the Leafs to the second round of the playoffs this year, a first in 19 years. However, doubts remained about him after the failure of his team at the hands of the Florida Panthers and the departure of previous GM Kyle Dubas. The latter is now president of hockey operations for the Pittsburgh Penguins.

In addition, the organization will have to determine a successor to former assistant instructor Spencer Carbery, now a Washington Capitals pilot. Keefe has 166 wins in 267 regular season games in Queen City, but his playoff record is 13-17.
