The students returned to school at the beginning of September in the new college of Saint-Donat-sur-l’Herbasse, a 5,000 m² ecological building, made with local wood. But its official inauguration was held this Friday evening, in the presence of Brian Bouillon, one of Josephine Baker’s sons.
The establishment bears the name of the legendary magazine leader, icon of the Roaring Twenties, anti-racist activist, who entered the Pantheon in November 2021. Joséphine Baker’s son, Brian Bouillon, says: “my mother always gave a lot, a lot of importance to schooling, knowledge, culture. And that’s how we train young people, teenagers to become citizens of the world, to learn what was the world in the past. A world that was often divided, violent. Despite everything, it still is today, but to a lesser extent. And so for her, it was very important that young people be able to have the tools to their schooling. She would have been very proud of this tribute, of this honor. But also, she would probably have said to herself all this, it is for the future of our children, our adolescents and therefore the planet”.
