Sandra Hüller, the heroine of the feature film, strongly criticized this affair. Last December, she took to her social networks to denounce this decision while specifying that “France” was not concerned. “It’s only a handful of people that I respect, but I think it’s not representative of the colossal number of people who saw the film in France and elsewhere,” she had indicated.

A controversial speech
As a reminder, Justine Triet sparked controversy during the closing ceremony of the 76th edition of the Cannes Film Festival on May 27. Showing her pride in having conquered the Croisette, the 44-year-old director deliberately infused a political dimension into her speech, tackling themes such as pension reform and police violence in France.
“This year, the country has been crossed by a historic, extremely powerful, unanimous protest against pension reform. This protest has been denied and repressed in a shocking way and this increasingly uninhibited pattern of dominating power is breaking out in several areas”, she said.
