A Hautes-Alpes trader received 1,100 letters at one time. Insistence or error at an astronomical cost? All envelopes were stamped.

In the Hautes-Alpes, a mountain of mail arrived Monday March 11 at a shopkeeper in Monêtier-les-Bains: two boxes full of letters. They were all addressed to the manager of a small decoration store. “I did not really understand, I thought it was a joke and finally I realized that it was sent by a collection agency”, explains Ingrid Premat. In total, over 1,100 letters received on the same day. Inside the envelopes: the same reminder letter of an unpaid insurance bill in the amount of 86 euros, with a late payment penalty.

“I had them on the phone. I told them that given the number of letters I had received, they might not need my 13 euros penalty with all the costs that all these letters generate”, laughs the shopkeeper. For the time being, the collection agency based in the Paris region is still unaware of the origin of this massive sending error. The young postman who delivered the mail will remember this extraordinary tour.
