“She asked if…”: Marie Fugain makes revelations, 20 years after Laurette’s death…

It is a drama that marked a clan for the rest of its life. On May 18, 2022, Laurette Fugain breathed her last breath at just 22 years old, after several months of battling leukemia. A broken destiny that bruised his famous dad, the singer Michel Fugain, just like the rest of his family. His sister Marie says she lost “one of his lungs“that day… She gave an interview to Galafor the 20th anniversary of Laurette’s death.

Like every year since the disappearance of her sister, Marie Fugain intends to be at home to live this difficult day that she apprehends upstream. “I always have a little countdown in my head that happens naturally (…) It’s like a kind of natural homage that I pay her every year, even if she lives with me every day. But it’s like a personal date that I have with her“, she said to Gala. And if his pain is undoubtedly shared by his parents Michel Fugain and Stéphanie – the couple divorced in 2011 – Marie specifies that the family does not necessarily meet to face this painful day together.

With the magazine, Marie Fugain – who also has a brother, the very discreet Alix – has agreed to recount her memories of the end of Laurette’s life. She notably made revelations about how her sister had avoided talking about a delicate subject with members of her family: euthanasia. “I found out afterwards that she had asked the nurses questions. She had asked them if it was difficult to end it, if she could be helped. She would never have told us about it because she knew we didn’t talk about it in the family. She suspected that she would have finished us off and that we would have said to her: ‘you don’t have the right’. At the same time, even if I wouldn’t have accepted her talking to me about it, I could have understood“, reveals Marie. It must be said that during the last days of Laurette, who rests in Corsica under an olive tree, “she was at the end of her strength (…) She was really tired, her body couldn’t take it anymore.

Since the young woman’s death, Stéphanie Fugain has founded the Laurette Fugain association. “Anesthetized by the pain caused by his departure, I want to make sense of this nonsense. His words come back to me, waiting for pockets of platelets, a bone marrow donor, a treatment. Waiting in the face of urgency. Leading the fight that Laurette had imagined then becomes obvious“, she says.
