Sharks get Jake Walman and 2nd round pick from Red Wings

(San Jose) The San Jose Sharks acquired defenseman Jake Walman and a second-round selection for the upcoming draft in a trade with the Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday.

In return, the Michigan team will get “future considerations.” The draft pick included in this transaction is #53e selection, which originally belonged to the Tampa Bay Lightning.

The Sharks will therefore have to pay the last two years of Walman’s contract, which averages US$3.4 million per season.

The 28-year-old guard scored 12 goals and added nine assists in 63 games with the Red Wings last season.

Walman was drafted in the third round by the St. Louis Blue in 2014 and has 25 goals and 51 points in 202 games in the National Hockey League.

The Sharks have three second-round picks and five selections in the first 53.

The Red Wings had obtained the 53e selection along with forward Jesse Kiiskinen from the Nashville Predators in exchange for defenseman Andrew Gibson, earlier Tuesday.
