Shared tramway lanes are the responsibility of Quebec City, according to Legault

Premier François Legault is stepping aside in the tramway file, leaving the City of Quebec free to judge the relevance of a shared route and the social acceptability of his project.

“The development of the details of the Quebec tramway is the responsibility of the City of Quebec,” said the Premier during a press briefing on Tuesday afternoon. “What we are going to ask the mayor of Quebec is quite simply to ensure that there is social acceptability of the project. »

As for how this social acceptability could be measured, Mr. Legault said that it was up to Mayor Bruno Marchand to establish it. “It’s not the Quebec government that will take care of that. »

Towards an adoption of the decrees tomorrow

Last week, the government of the Coalition Avenir Québec (CAQ) expressed its uneasiness over the presence of a shared lane in the Montcalm district which risked disturbing motorists.

This exit had triggered an outcry in the municipal world, local elected officials seeing it as an encroachment in their fields of competence.

Already on Monday, the minister had lowered the pressure by announcing that he was in favor of the adoption of the decrees on Wednesday.
