Zora Ouaguef, deputy mayor of Arras West district, explains that this idea of installing 2 shared barbecues in the heart of the Parc des Grandes Prairies was born after a discussion with young people who used to barbecue wild: “They told us that it would be interesting for the city to think about people who don’t have a garden or a dedicated place to have a barbecue. We thought why not create a test barbecue, life-size to see how it would come to life in a well-supervised place, paying particular attention to safety”
A camera to monitor barbecues
The two barbecues are installed face to face, sealed on a concrete plate near an alley in the middle of the trees. The risks of incidents, incivility and fire have been taken into account, explains Zora Ouaguef: _“the barbecues are in line with a CCTV camera_so there is visibility from a distance, indeed if we see that things are going badly, we can intervene”.
Bring back his grid and clean up after his visit!
The town hall of Arras relies on good citizenship and everyone’s responsibility to respect this arrangement of 7650 Euros. You have to bring your own grid, empty your ashes into the dedicated red bin and clean up after your visit.
If successful, if there is no incident, other barbecues could be installed in Grandes Prairies and in other neighborhoods.
