Canadian tennis player Denis Shapovalov has reached the fourth round of the Australian Open for the very first time in his career. In the third round, on the night of Thursday to Friday, he beat the American Reilly Opelka in (number of innings) of (score).
The 14th ATP racket had failed twice in the third round of this major tournament, earlier in his career, in 2019 and 2021.
The Canadian managed to get the upper hand over his opponent of the day in four sets of 7-6, 6-4, 6-3 and 6-4 in a thrilling match that lasted 3 hours 5 minutes.
Shapovalov was thus able to avoid suffering the wrath of his opponent’s service. The 29th in the world still managed 17 aces and committed 3 double faults.
The representative of the maple leaf will not have to be ashamed of his performance with the balls in hand, he who made 10 aces, but committed 5 double faults.
In the next round, Shapovalov could face a huge challenge, in the German Alexander Zverev, 3rd racket of the ATP. The latter must however defeat the Moldovan Radu Albot, later, before being able to face the member of the maple leaf.
